The map shows the regions surrounding Lake Nyassa and the smaller Lake Shirwa on a scale of approximately 1 Inch to 100 English Statute Miles. This is an area of Africa that was explored by David Livingstone in the late 1850s. The courses of several of the rivers are only conjectural.
Lake Nyassa (nowadays Nyasa) also goes by the name of Lake Malawi.
