Description

Paperback, 42 pages, 21 b/w illustrations, bibliography and index, plus folded map (Greenwich, by John Rocque, 1741-1745 - partially revised 1974) inside back cover. A5. Written by Alan Glencross. Published by the London Borough of Greenwich, 1974.

Very good condition.

An excellent and erudite guide, as Glencross states in his introduction, to “the lesser delights of the architecture of the Borough -  lesser than the greatest but still very substantial - and deals in the main with the Grade II buildings on the lists of the Department of the Environment...

The guide starts in Old Greenwich, near the river (which is where most visitors arrive), then moves up the hill, through Greenwich Park, to Blackheath, whence it makes sallies to Charlton, Woolwich, Plumstead, Eltham and Shooters Hill. It does not impose an itinerary, but may suggest one to its readers.”
