'Pubd. by Roberts Middle Row'. No date, circa 1803

Image size: 250mm x 365mm including margins.

Fair to good condition, a little time-stained, occasional spotting, some tiny holes, a small tear (extending 15mm into image top left).

An undated caricature, but most likely drawn and published circa 183 at the time of a of French invasion. A Dad's Army Captain Mainwaring of the day. The main figure stands in the centre is magnificently dressed in full regimental uniform. To his left ,a woman (his wife) remarks: "I knew my dear - it would not be long before you wanted your Regimentals depend yupon it they are well aired - bless your jolly face how those large whiskers become you". To his right, a boy (his son) proffers him two large firearms with the words: "Farther I have brought you two Guns for they say master Bonny is a terrible fellow" - to which the father replies, "Thats right my Lad - and dye hear bring me three brace of Horse Pistols - I'll Bonny him I warrant ye". [Spelling and punctuation as it appears].
