Wenceslaus HOLLAR Prints and Drawings

Description

Photo-lithograph.

Exhibition poster, published by British Museum Publications Ltd, c.1983.

Image size: 30 x 20" - 762 x 508mm.

Very good condition, with no dinks, dents or other blemishes.

A beautifully designed poster, using a detail from Hollar's 1647 'Long View of London'. The viewpoint is from 's. Olafe' (i.e., St Mary Overie/Southwark Cathedral) and looks across the Thames towards the Tower of London. The river itself is busy with craft and shipping.

Wenceslaus Hollar (23 July 1607 – 25 March 1677) was a prolific and accomplished Bohemian graphic artist of the 17th century, who spent much of his life in England. He is particularly noted for his engravings and etchings. He was born in Prague, died in London, and was buried at St Margaret's Church, Westminster. (Wiki).
