John Fairbairn Fannen (1847-1904) was a seascape painter who enjoyed painting all types of vessels, but particularly small sailing vessels. He worked mainly in oil but also in watercolour and gouache. This is a rather beautiful and graceful depiction of a fishing boat once common in the Channel seas.
