Greenwich Park: Its History and Associations by A.D. Webster

Description

Greenwich: Printed and Published by Henry Richardson, Steam Printing Works, 4, Church Street in association with Simpkin, Marshall, Hamilton, Kent & Co. Ltd, 1902.

With 31 illustrations from drawings, photographs, and old engravings, including a folding map

104pp, original gilt-stamped blue cloth.

Generally a very good copy. Minor marks and handling discolouration to boards, intermitent foxing throughout text (most noticeable on endpapers). Bookplate pasted to inside front cover.  Previous owners name inscribed and dated 1903.

The first edition of the standard work on Greenwich Park, detailing the history, flora and fauna, interesting finds, sports and pastimes and much more. Still eminently readable, it was written at a time when the deer still roamed freely through the Park, and Webster implores the public not to feed them, informing his readers, by way of warning, that one buck "died from partaking too freely of gooseberry tart."

Increasingly hard to find.
