Published by Effingham Wilson, 11 Royal Exchange. Greenwich: D. Dixon, South Street.
142pp + 10pp of advertisements. Sparsely illustrated with three wood engravings: a view of the Hospital from the River (full page, p.56), 'View in Greenwich Park' (full page, p.83), 'The Old Tree' (vignette, p.93).
Lacks original covers, some loss to title page (minor partial loss to initial letter 'G', otherwise not affecting text), loss to dedication page (not affecting text). Minor chips to the extremities of pages 1 & 2. Ink inscription of previous owner's name (A. Butler) at top of title page. However, the book is complete and in good condition. Professionally restored and rebound in modern burgundy cloth, with title and author's name stamped in gilt on upper board.
The author's second volume of local history. Whilst in no way comparable to Henry Richardson'sHistory of Greenwichpublished half a century earlier, Howarth's histories are tantalisingly elusive and overlooked in many bibliographies of Greenwich.
