Description

Etching/lithograph designed, etched and signed in the plate, George Cruikshank. Not dated [1851].

Image size 230mm x 280mm approx. plus wide borders.

Generally good to very good condition, but with one crease (hardly apparent) running vertically from top mid-right.

This version is identical, other than the paper it is printed upon, to the one that appeared as an illustration to the book by Henry Mayhew, '1851 or The Adventures of Mr. and Mrs. Sandboys and Family, Who Came Up to London to Enjoy Themselves and to See the Great Exhibition' published by David Bogue, 1851. Cruikshank makes great play of the myriad of people who flocked to London that year to see the Great Exhibition in Hyde Park. Very scarce, especially in this form.
