Description

Copper engraving (anon) with original wash and outline colour.

Published by Laurie & Whittle, 53 Fleet, London, 1 July 1802.

Image size: 21 1/2 x 21 7/8" - 545 x 555mm.

Sheet size: 23 1/2" x 28 1/8" - 597 x 715mm.

Good to very good condition. Splits at bottom centre, top left and right margins mended from rear with conservation tape; ditto, one small tear around Arras - Valenciennes. Colour expert and still bright.

Set on Meridian of Paris and three scales: Great French Leagues, Common French Leagues and English Miles. As the title suggests the boundaries shown are those agreed according to the Peace, i.e., the Treaty of Amiens, March 1802 - May 1803. This is especially evident in the north-eastern departments which include those territories in the Austrian Netherlands gained by France in the course of the revolutionary wars since 1792. Napoleon should have quit whilst he was ahead!
