Isthmus of Panama
Published by J[ohn] Tallis & Co., as part of his Illustrated Atlas, 1851.
Steel engraving with outline colour. The map drawn and engraved by J. Rapkin; the illustrations drawn by H. Warren and engraved by J. Wrightson.
Image size: 10 1/2" x 13" approx. plus margins.
Generally good condition throughout, vertical fold as issued.
As expected of Tallis, this is a quite detailed map of the region, showing the main habitations, river and mountain ranges denoted by hachure, the proposed road and railway communications are also indicated. The map is surrounded by vignettes of the Fort at Chagre and gold seekers on their way over the Cordilleras.
