Africa

Lithograph with original hand colour, published by Blackie & Co, Glasgow circa 1850.

Image size: 12 1/2" x 14 3/8"

Generally good condition throughout, with original folds, as issued. One unobtrusive tear to left hand margin running into image, with old repair to reverse.

An interesting mid-Victorian map of the entire continent of Africa, with bright hand colouring to the coastline. The centre of the map remains blank indicating the interior was at that time unexplored. It would be another five years before Dr Livingstone became the first European to view the Mosi-oa-Tunya or Victoria Falls on 16th November 1855.

£145 unmounted, unframed.
